Change in plans

most years I do wear something "dress up" for Hallowe'en.

This year, I had planned to go as a hippie - I have a long, tiered sundress and even a matching "forehead band" with flowers on it, and a toe-ring, and I have Birkenstock sandals. I was going to wear my hair down (even wash it and try to set it as straight as I can get it) and dig one of the chunky pendants out of my jewelry box.

But we're supposed to be in the 30s when I leave the house, and not top out over 53 degrees. And the A/C is still on in much of the building here.

So, last night, when I realized that, I thought: I could do Beatrix Potter again (except the blouse I wore is in the laundry, and I think the floor-sweeper length skirt is one of the things I gave to the thrift shop when I cleaned out the closet).

I realized I also have my Mary Quant inspired dress, and I thought, well, I have a pair of bottle-green tights that would coordinate with it, and some kind-of-chunky black Mary Janes. And I thought: well, I don't have the right make up; women in the 60s wore pale, pale lipstick with such clothing, and lots of eye make up (which I normally don't wear). So I may make a Walgreen's run later this afternoon and pick some up, and experiment this evening to be sure I can put it on okay. (I'm leery of eyeliner; no experience with it, but maybe I try? I can probably do mascara....). Probably better get some of the special oil or cleaner for removing mascara so I don't wind up hurting my eyes taking it off

I don't know what to do with my hair because the MOST fashionable style for that kind of dress was one of those Vidal Sassoon bobs, and I have long hair. Maybe I just do a messy bun on the top of my head (I don't have enough hair any more for a beehive, and I don't feel like unloading a can of hairspray on it) or I do one of those "half updos" where you basically do a ponytail with some of your hair (on top of your head) and leave the rest loose.

I have a chunky silver bracelet that would work as jewelry. I know women also often wore long, long strands of beads but I can't remember if I ever saw a picture of a woman in a Carnaby Street style dress with them, so maybe I leave those off.

Anyway, I am probably putting too much thought and effort into this* as I have only one class tomorrow.

I wish it were going to be warmer as the hippie get-up would be easier and probably more generally recognizable.
