a little progress

 Busy day today (lots of grading) and this week felt about a month long, but I'm closing in on finishing the first chart of the cowl:

You can begin to see the hexagons that give it the "beeswax" name. 

I also knit on the mitts (no picture though) while giving exams, got the first one done up past the thumb. This is a nice, simple pattern and I'm seriously considering a stash-dig in case there's a red or dark grey worsted (to match with the hat I made her) to make a pair for my mom (Or, failing that: if I take a close-to-semester's-end celebratory yarn shop trip, I could get some there; these probably only take about a day to make if you work solidly on them)
