It was apparently the air conditioning condensate drain (and maybe another bit in the AC system).
"Yeah it was a weird problem" the guy said when he (FINALLY) called. And I refrained from saying "oh hey so my mentioning I felt water drain from the underside of the dash onto my foot helped as a diagnostic" because they kind of pooh poohed that at first and were all "oh it's a bad suspension!" "it's bad brakes!' and all of that.
Guys, yes, I am a woman but I am also a SCIENTIST and I am trained to notice things and report on them
Supposedly I will have a driveable car tomorrow but also there is a worn bearing that will need to be replaced, but they don't have them in stock.....so I will have to bring it BACK out next week.
I will admit I am kind of Big Mad that it took them that long to figure it out when I said "it sounds like water sloshing when I come to a stop, especially when the AC is on" and "water drained out from under the dash.
At any rate, they don't need to rebuild my suspension so I guess I should be happy about that but I am also heartily tired of begging rides off people

Women are often dismissed when it comes to mechanical stuff. It's so deeply engrained that it'll probably not go away until 2147
