I DID in fact get my car back on Wednesday (and I cast just a bit of shade, over the phone, to the guy who had previously pooh poohed my "waster leaked out from the dash onto my foot, could that suggest something's going on with the AC?" statement, because apparently that is THE diagnostic for a plugged drain hose). But oh well, at least they did find the other problem (the bearing) that could have wound up a very bad problem if it failed when I was traveling at interstate speeds. The AC is fixed; the bearing will be fixed next week (this place is a geographical oddity, and while we're not 2 weeks from anywhere, we are apparently at least four days from parts)
But today, I had to skip breakfast. Because it was Routine Bloodwork Day
I was brave, though I could tell I felt shaky this time (9 am is a horrible time to have to fast until, when you are used to eating breakfast at 6 am). Hopefully everything comes back normal (it has in the past). I haven't had any symptoms but I've also heard enough horror stories of people being blindsided by suddenly turning up Type II diabetic or with kidney disease or some darn thing. And I remember before my dad's cancer diagnosis (very early stage and ultimately completely treatable) he got a wonky blood result and went through literal months of diagnostic testing and at one point one doctor said "maybe early ALS?" and you know? I could not cope with life dealing with that kind of worry, not all on my own.
So again: I hope I get back the same boring results I have in past years, or at most I come up low on iron or something that's easily fixed.
But after I got out of there, I thought: I could go get a donut (which was my original plan, but the two main donut shops here have closed down) or I could get a full meal and use it as breakfast and lunch and then just fix an earlier dinner.
So I did
We have a Jimmy's Egg in town. I almost never eat there because most of the type of food those places make (with the exception of some of the really rich breakfast items, and I have to watch my calories) is food I can make better and cheaper myself, at home. But of course today what I wanted was food made by someone else and to just sit there while I waited for it. This is their "classic breakfast" - two eggs, a meat, and two sides; I went with grits (they were okay, but I realize now I really prefer a little cheese on my grits) and pancakes that were pretty good for restaurant pancakes (again: I think my own homemade ones are better)
But it was nice to just have food, and food I didn't have to fix. And I don't ordinarily eat breakfasts like this - more commonly it's a bowl of oatmeal or of cinnamon Life, or perhaps some whole wheat bread and jam. But like I said: I was really very hungry at that point, and that is my lunch, too
I'm not sure how the people who do "brunch" in the mid morning do it, unless they sleep very late or have a very small light breakfast when they first get up....
