waiting on weather

They've dialed back to saying "about an inch" of snow and sleet. But it's going to be cold, both Kingston and Madill public schools (just to the west of me) have closed for tomorrow.

I don't know. I brought home the reading for next week's Advanced Biostats and the two exams I am writing for next week, and I think if we get a snow day part of it will be spent getting a little ahead for classes next week (And I will probably do a little cleaning).

I did have a messy task earlier. Soil and leaves and stuff had clogged up the "western drainage" (not *really* a gutter, but similar) and water had backed up in the low area at the foot of my drive, and I didn't want a sheet of ice there tomorrow if I have to back out. So, when I came home for lunch, before going back to school to prep for Advanced Biostats, I got the shovel out of the garage and carefully scooped up all the leaves and soil and dumped them up on my lawn. Carefully, because I was in a dress and tights and my dressy raincoat, but I didn't feel like taking the time to change.

And I admit, I have to laugh. I remember times when my mom would chase after my dad, yelling "Bob, Bob!" to try to get him to change clothes before doing some messy task in his work clothes. And once she sighed and told me, "Well, his father used to change the oil on his Mercury" (Granddad ALWAYS drove Mercuries) "in a white button down shirt"

So I guess I learned it from him. But really, some times it is easier to just do a task *carefully* than it is to take the time to change. (And no, I didn't get anything on me).

I guess I'm ready. I have food ahead if the weather is bad for a couple days - anyway, I try to only do "big" grocery shopping once a week (I will sometimes stop by Pruett's for more milk or fresh fruit if I need it). So I've got meals if I'm stuck in for a day or two (our bad weather rarely lasts longer than that).

(As of now, we're still open. I told my students - I just have ecology tomorrow, and its lab - if they lived west of the area and driving was unsafe, not to come in. I'd hope the powers that be would consider that a large number of our students are commuters, I don't want anyone risking their life to get here. But Thursday might even be worse; I told my intro-bio students that if school was closed the exam would be Tuesday, and if it was open and they judged it unsafe to drive, I could arrange a make up on Friday or Monday. Because again: yeah, someone might "play" me on that, but I'd rather have that happen than someone get in a fatal accident trying to get in. I have seen too many people die in car wrecks these past few years....)

But yeah, I could really use a day off. Especially if I knew BEFORE bed, so I didn't have to set my alarm, but I suspect that's too much to hope for.
