Finally, some knitting

I did finish (but not tie off the loose ends fully) the first mitt for my niece. I give another exam Monday so if I don't finish these this weekend I probably will then:

I also started the heel flap on the "Alive" socks. This is a colorway from Dream in Color (before they got bought out), it's in their yak blend yarn. It makes a nice dense fabric; they used nice base yarns for these. I can't get it locally any more (the owner of the yarn shop chose not to sell yarn lines bought out by a, I think it was, private-equity company) but I do have a bunch in stash.

I just started the heel flap. I doubt there will be any knitting tonight because I need to go back out. Tonight is AAUW and we are meeting (a bit later) and going as a group to a free concert on campus; we had tried to get someone to do musical performances for us a couple years running in February but every year the weather was so bad it was canceled, so we decided to do it this way.

I do have to figure out something small for dinner. I ate a late lunch (and a larger lunch; I came home and had smoked salmon on toast and some fruit and sweet potato) but I need to take my evening meds and those have to go with food, and I don't want to get hungry or shaky during the concert.

I even went to Aldi to see if I could find anything quick but nothing appealed to me; I might just have a bowl of cereal.

But I did get myself a treat after this week I've had. I like Advent calendars; and they had them out on their "Aisle of Shame" (officially known as "Aldi Finds," but I like the casual name for it more). They had quite a few - and in the fridge case they had a cheese one, which tempted me, but several of the cheeses contained flavorings I dislike or can't eat. And I knew I didn't want a "little tchotke" one (they had a mini-squishmallows one) because I have too much of those already and I actually need to start divesting myself.

But they did have this:

That'll do. And because I can't take time every day for tea (I can't drink caffeine after 4 pm or so, and many days I'm not home before that) I could start it early. Also, I'll be gone for part of the advent period but I could carry some of the bags with me to enjoy on the road.

If they had had the little cheap-chocolates ones I might have considered that but tea will be better. (They also had herbal tea ones, but I can't drink some herbal teas because of chamomile or marigold flowers, or because of licorice root, or because of fennel)
