Monday evening things

 * Had the six-month dental checkup today. Good news is nothing is wrong with my teeth and I don't have to go back until April. But I still find the "sonicator" hard to tolerate, and also it was COLD (air con on high) in there, and my neck started to cramp up while she was working on me

She commented that my hygiene was good but that I was just "unlucky" in that the chemistry of my saliva is such that it makes a lot of deposits (calcium) on my teeth that have to be scraped off. My gums will probably hurt tomorrow but at least it's done.

* I started reading a new book, on the grounds that maybe I need fiction before bed - I had ordered a copy of "A Far Better Thing" (H G Parry) after having read a recommendation of it. It's a retelling of A Tale of Two Cities with an, I guess you'd say, supernatural? twist - Carton is a changeling who was taken away tot he fae realm, and Darnae is this faery replacement in this world (given a trope of the original book is their strong resemblance). Miss Manette is also a changeling.

I'm not very far in yet - about 30 pages - but it's interesting so far. And I have to admit, I never read Tale of Two Cities (but I think my set of Dickens novels has a copy in it - there are a few of his well-known novels missing from the set but I think that one's there). I do know the basic story and I seem to remember my sixth grade teacher showing us the old film version with Ronald Colman, but I don't remember much of it (rather than liking Colman, but I've always been a sucker for that type of accent). Maybe I read the original material after I finish this novel.

* I did finish the mitts this weekend

* I have Friday off; it's mid fall break day. I had originally thought of going back to Yarn and You but they're closed; the owner is going to Rhinebeck. Which, good for her, and I hope she makes a lot of sales/makes some new contacts of suppliers. But it means I can't go this weekend.

And then I had thought of Chickasaw National Recreation Area, but the government shutdown, lol. Also it's been BRUTALLY hot for October here, in the upper 80s, and I am not tolerating it well, and hiking would be a bad idea ESPECIALLY in a park that might be understaffed.

So maybe I just run errands in Sherman (it's been a while since I could get to a larger grocery or to the Ulta) and then stay home on Saturday and knit on stuff. Or maybe I go back to the museum in Sherman; they should have their new display up.
