* Busy day (I got home a bit after 6 pm) but I managed to work it to have essentially nothing I HAVE to do after class tomorrow so I can go out and do the fieldwork stuff I need to do tomorrow. (It's not a lot of time, but it needs to be done)
And if I get that done early enough I might take a run to the little Western shop downtown; my niece's birthday is in October and I am not quite sure what to get her. (She is turning 11, and I'm not around her enough to know if she's a "hang on to childhood as long as you can" 11 like I was, or a "I want to be a small adult" 11). She IS, however, horse-mad (she is in 4-H and does dressage and also is learning about horse care) and I thought maybe if they had a small women's t-shirt with a horse on it, that might be good. (She is slender but is tall for her age, so a women's small would probably not be too large. Or even a medium to be worn over a thermal shirt in the winter)
Failing that, I might mail order this for her: Camel Corps t-shirt. She likes animals in general, and I find the history of that whole thing slightly amusing (I'm not sure she would, though, so that's why it's a second choice). There was even a 1970s comedy movie (called Hawmps) that was made by some of the same people who made the Benji movies.
* I did run out and do a couple errands after lunch - there was a free t-shirt (for attending some faculty thing before the start of the semester) that I had to pick up at the President's office (we all got them). And my new glasses were in - back in August I had had a checkup and decided my prescription had changed enough (mostly: my left eye got weaker and I need a stronger reading correction now) that it was time for new glasses.
I liked my old frames, which were round, a lot, so I tried to find ones like them. I got close, found some in a similar color (sort of a rose gold color; anything too dark or heavy looks bad on my face). They're a little more angular than my old ones, but aren't bad:
* Also, I came home for lunch and at long last, my missing yarn arrived
"Blackberry" and "Moonlight" colored silk-blend dk for the Moon Moth sweater. Of course,, I need to finish something else first.
* I did knit some on Chalcedony when I was invigilating the exam yesterday. It's not at an ideal stage for portable knitting as it's quite heavy. It was okay; this was a small class and they all instinctively spread themselves out in the room so cheating would not be an issue. For the class today - large, packed elbow to elbow, and not students I know well yet - well, I both did alternate forms, but I also took the long-stalled Deers and Beers hat with me and worked on that.
I do need to do more knitting. I think I feel better when I do it, though more recently I admit I've wasted a lot of time with dumb online games (both the mobile "match three" games I have on my phone, and now, online Sudoku on my new computer - though I tell myself Sudoku is good for my brain. I like it on the computer better because there's a feature where it will highlight all the examples of one number are, and that seems to make it easier for me to figure out). But again - the "cheap" neurotransmitters of online games are probably not as good long-term as the harder-won ones of actually doing something creative.
* Someone on Ravelry (I think it was in the Demon Trolls* group) shared a link to this Halcyon Yarn selector where you can choose a color (there's a color wheel, and then a box to select the value and chroma). It then tells you what yarns (at least of the ones they sell) that come in that color. Which is neat, because sometimes you do want a very specific color and don't want to spend a long time searching the usual yarn purveyors)
(*this is a group mainly aimed at customer issues with yarn sellers - they issue warnings, or talk about the "good guys," or give detail on how to get problems resolved)

When I was growing up, the pronunciation of dressage made me chuckle. It seemed so affected and snooty.
