Some of the doll blogs I read were really excited about the new "Creatable World" line from Mattel - roughly Skipper-sized dolls that could be gender-neutral (or even nonbinary, I suppose, if you wanted) - they come with short hair and with a longer wig, and clothes that are not specifically either "girly" or "boy."
I wanted to like them, I really do.
But the clothes are kind of ugly.
The dolls that I like best (the Asian one with the dark straight hair, the one with "copper" colored hair) have clothes I don't like, and I don't want to order two dolls just because one of them has an outfit I like. And since these are a shorter slimmer doll than Barbie (they are androgynous/preteen so no boobs), they can't wear Barbie clothes. And given my track record of saying "I'll sew doll clothes" and then I never do...
I was thinking today "Gee if I want one better order it off Amazon before all the sleazy third-party sellers* buy them up and triple the price" but maybe this is a doll I really do not want after all :(
(*I would bet money the Asian one - because Asian fashion dolls are less common - will be the first one to sell out, and the one for the most money from third-part sellers)
Supposedly Target carries these too so I suppose IF I get down there this weekend and they have them, I could see them in person. That might make me decide one way or another.
But I still kinda hate the clothes. (And my doll would definitely be a girl - I'd put the long wig on her and want her to wear a dress, because girl dolls are mostly more fun, because most of the fun in them for me is dressing them up)
Edited to add: a better photo of the African-American one and that doll is really pretty cute - and had the nicest outfits of any of them. Hmmmm....maybe my Gabby doll needs a little sister?
(Nope - that must have either been a prototype or one that's not out yet, the one for sale on Amazon has a braided wig instead of the long waves. And I still don't like most of the clothes for them)
