I decided I needed to go to Sherman - there are some things from the natural-foods store I use, and a couple things I wanted from Ulta. And I wanted to get some big buttons for the Paddington Neckwarmer (which I finished knitting at Laura's but I'm waiting until I get the buttons on it to photograph). And I wanted to look for the new Simply Knitting (UK) and Quilty.
I ate lunch here, which was a good choice for two reasons - first, it did help me to get over being anxious (I honestly wonder if I am getting "anxiety flares" instead of hot flashes....they don't last long and they don't come often, but they're unpleasant when they happen. And I can't always link them to any event....)
But I ate some cottage cheese and fruit and had a cup of "buttermint" tea (an herbal tea - it kind of is what it says on the tin, it's mint leaves with a little vanilla flavor, like the old buttermint candies). And I felt better after that.
So I set out. I got everywhere I wanted to go.
And I got the cupcake I talked about getting:
From the natural-foods store; I am saving it to eat after dinner tonight. I don't eat dessert much any more these days so this will be a treat.
(Edited to add, after dinner: the cupcake was really, really good. That was cream cheese frosting on there)
And I did go to the JoAnn's and found some good buttons:
They're a lightweight metal. They are a tiny bit larger than called for in the pattern, but given how knit buttonholes often stretch, I think that was a good choice. I think I'm going to use embroidery floss to sew them on - will photo the finished item when it's done.
One of the other things - it was a LOT cooler than it's been. "Only" in the upper 80s, and the air was very dry, so it felt cooler than it was. And the sun has taken on its autumnal slant, so the light seems less harsh to me....and so it just FELT like fall, it made me feel like before too long I can start pulling out my wool sweaters and making soup, and that was a good feeling.
If we're lucky here, fall can stretch from September into December, and it is the most pleasant time of year. So it's nice to have a little taste of it today.
And I got to Kelley Square, which is where the yarn shop is.
At first I thought I'd just look at the sock yarn but then I saw the Berroco book - it has a nice cardigan in there that I could make with the Remix Light (that is what the book is written for) I bought there last time. And there are a couple of two-skein shawls that are VERY pretty - so the dark brown is for them.
And the sock yarn - well, those colors are just my jam. I guess I am kind of preppy at heart; I've always liked pink and green together.
There's also a candle there. I stopped in the Women's Gift Exchange (right next door) and I smelled it and it SMELLS like fall, so I wanted to buy it. It's called Pumpkingiving. I may not even burn it; it smells enough on its own so I could just put it somewhere and get the subtle scent.
And I also got to the Target. I bought more of the coconut-oil infused Epsom salt I like, so I might have a warm bath tonight with them (to further help me relax, though I don't think I'll have any trouble sleeping tonight)
And I got what school supplies I will need for fall (more pencils, more yellow legal pads - yes, I am very old skool in some ways) and a pencil pouch (which may become a knitting tool pouch, I don't know) that says HECK YEAH on it because it made me smile. (I probably need it as a pencil pouch over at work, though - pencil and calculator and fattie chalk for when I teach biostats)
And I decided to look at the toy aisles, because it's rare I'm there on a day when they're not slammed with people.
I didn't expect to find this, but I was delighted when I did....
These are the retro-reproduction "Rainbow Ponies" that The Bridge Direct is doing (A lot of the Pony blogs are featuring them now). I thought I didn't have a prayer of finding these out in the wild, so to speak, because the nearest-to-me Target didn't get the previous run of Ponies (or - they sold out before I could get there). But nope....they had one of each on the shelves.
At first I was just going to get Skydancer (the yellow one; I've wanted her for a while but never found an original one for a good price in good shape) but then I thought - you know? You ate lunch at home. You didn't spend $12 on barbecue at the barbecue place. Why not treat yourself to a second pony?
So I got Windy, a lavender colored unicorn.
They come with combs and brushes (Windy's are yellow and Skydancer's are green) and a retro style puffy sticker. And these ponies are scented- Windy is cherry and Skydancer is apricot, though to me I just get "generic sweet fruit scents" like the Strawberry Shortcake dolls. But yeah. I was super excited and admit I had a brief thought of "you could just buy them ALL" but decided I would value them more if I only had one or two (And I already have an original old Parasol. And the Starshine - a white one - had a distinct difference in the color of the white of her head and her body, and I figured that would only get worse over time, and it would annoy me.
But yeah. REALLY happy I have a Skydancer:
Isn't that the cutest Pony Pose, with her front foot raised like that? (Her symbol is flying birds in the distance and they have GLITTER)
And Windy, her friend - another unicorn for my herd!
Her symbols are also glittery and it's so nice to have a NEW totally NEW pony that is like the old ones but their hair isn't messed up and the glitter hasn't worn off their symbols.
