What a drag...

...it is getting old, as I have said several times this month.

As I was getting ready today, I realized: I should probably get one of those by-the-day pillbox things and fill it up with my various medications. Because while it would be annoying if I forgot my anti-hive meds, it would be very serious (and probably necessitate a call down here to my doctor, and her calling in a prescription on an emergency basis up in Illinois) if I left my metoprolol here.

And that's possible. I keep the anti-hive meds in my bathroom because I take them first thing in the morning, as I'm getting dressed, but the blood pressure meds I keep on my dining room table (with my vitamins) because I have to take a dose at breakfast and a dose at dinner. And it's easier to remember that if the little bottle is sitting there staring me in the face.

I admit, part of me resists this: My DAD uses a pill organizer, for crying out loud.

But I sighed and decided that that was better than having to call my doctor in a panic on Tuesday after forgetting my medication.

So I went out to the local chain-pharmacy. (I could go to my pharmacy, which is where I get my medication, but I've dealt with rude pushy people there the last few times I went. And besides, the chain-pharmacy sells Lindt bars, which are my sole gastronomic indulgence these days).

I found the pill boxes and selected one, then ambled down the Christmas-goods aisle to make myself feel a little better.

And they have some awful things. (KISS themed Christmas tree ornaments? Well, at least I think that's kind of awful. Someone else might thing it's awesome.) But then I saw the little solar-powered thingies: A waving Mickey Mouse, a Tinkerbelle with fluttering wings (Tinkerbelle certainly has had a resurgence in popularity? And I always thought she was kind of a jerk in the original Peter Pan movie: jealous of Wendy). But best of all? Spongebob dressed as a bell-ringing Santa, grinning his fool head off, and when the solar power hits him, he shakes a bell (which does not actually ring, or I would not have been tempted to buy the item).

I admit, I walked past it twice, rejecting it as a stupid waste of money. (It was $4). I went and picked out a Green and Black's chocolate bar. (Green and Blacks! I can't find that ANYWHERE any more!).

And then I went back and picked out a Spongebob and added him to my basket. Four bucks is cheap enough if it makes me smile. He's sitting on my desk now, grinning and waving his little bell. Because if I'm going to concede that I'm aging by buying a pill kit so I remember to take everything I have to take at the right time, I need to throw a sop to my inner 11-year-old.

ETA: I didn't even notice until now that the "backdrop" (printed on the back of the little clear box he is in) is Squidward's Easter Island head house, all decorated for Christmas. Wonderful!

I can't find Green and Black's where I am, too. Maybe they're not selling well in the US market.

Hm, wonder if the KISS ornament refers to the Family Guy Christmas episode. Or just made by a really enthusiastic fan.
