Sharp uptick in spam. Getting towards the end of the month? Do spammers have quotas of "placements" they have to meet?
I have to admit, as annoying as I find getting 20 "new comments" and finding they're all spam, it's also kind of interesting to track (in a general sort of way) the patterns. This past week I've had more spam than in the previous two weeks. So I'm wondering if it's a cyclical thing, or a spammers-got-quotas-to-meet kind of things. (Like cops. It was always rumored that in the town in Illinois where I used to live, there was a "quota" of speeding tickets cops were supposed to give each month, so the idea was, if you were speeding on, say, the third of the month, you might get ignored or get a warning, but if you were speeding - even a little bit - on the 27th or 28th, you could expect a ticket). Then again - it's the 16th, midpoint of the month. So I don't know.
I also wonder if I'm going to see more merchandise spam as we approach the Buying Season.
If I had more energy for such a thing, I'd actually keep track.
