Cancel the cleansing fire from Heaven; Martin and one of his assistant painters showed up about 20 minutes ago. he assistant is doing the last bits of painting outside; Martin has taped off the section of drywall in the sewing room that needs to be removed and will replace that today; tomorrow the plan is to fix the subfloor and then we figure out what to do about a laminate or other floor covering.
I'm glad now I cleaned the sewing room as much as I did; Martin said "yeah I can avoid getting dust on things this way" and also said he could easily enough get in to paint.
Still I will be super glad when this is done. Martin is a nice guy and easy enough to talk to but still he's someone I don't know WELL in my house and I'm even a tiny bit uncomfortable when my friend Dana (who I DO know well) is in my house so...yeah, this has been a real workout of the emotions for me.
I just keep saying: it will be worth it when it's done. (Even if I do wind up paying more, because of all the siding they needed. Martin is going to leave me the leftover siding because he said "it's possible you get some damage some time" though I really hope NOT; the only damage I can imagine is bad, bad hail or possibly someone shooting and a pellet lodging in the siding (though THAT I might leave, just out of spite)
And Martin is now working on the drywall repair, saints be praised
perhaps I might even have still a hope of grabbing a day at Chickasaw next Wednesday, before the meeting-o-rama. (I still might skip the "all faculty muster" on Thursday, I fear that could be a superspreader event)
Update, almost 2 pm: new drywall is in. I ran back and peeked when he was out taking some stuff back to the pickup/getting a few other things and OH IT LOOKS SO GOOD. So much better than the janky tape-and-drywall-mud repair I did 20 years ago when I moved in here.
Now I'm even more motivated to finish cleaning up that space, temporarily move out all the craft books and bookcases, and paint the walls a pretty color. That might be an over-Labor-Day activity.
