*huge relieved sigh*

This is the front of the house, where the living room is. This is where some of the worst-damaged siding was. (The dining room is similar, but not quite as bad; the north side of the house is MUCH less damaged by dint of being sheltered by the house next door)

Anyway:

the guy took a break to go grab lunch (he's back already, must have gotten carry out and is eating in his air conditioned truck) so I ran out to get my thumbdrive with my powerpoints AND to take a peek. I am massively relieved because like I said, this is where some of the worst damage was.

We're supposed to get rain this weekend and it seems completely likely that all the re-siding and repair will be done before then. Maybe not the painting, but that is probably okay, given how warm it is out and the fact that the rain is going to be short lived.

also it seems entirely likely they are NOT going to have to remove the windows, and while I spent a couple days when I was probably in the throes of a bad reaction to my covid booster (and wasn't feeling very good, and overheated myself running around moving stuff and tidying), I don't care. For one thing: I can put stuff back better this time, I was able to really CLEAN* behind and under stuff, and I can do a leisurely sort of books and other things and maybe dispose of a few more items - I already have a promise from someone with a pickup truck that my old Papasan chair can go down to the church for their yard sale later this fall - so where that stood, I want to eventually get *yet another* bookcase for more of my books that I had had stacked on the floor, and maybe get a quilt stand (or a DIY one, I think you used to be able to get kits for them) and set it up to hang some of the quilts that used to be stacked on the Papasan chair there.

Eventually, when I have more money, I would like to get a small sofa/fainting couch sort of thing and put in under the back bedroom window, give myself a place where I could sit and read or do handwork in my bedroom (which tends to be cooler than the rest of the house in the summer).

(*Heh. Before I found this GC, before I ever really thought of doing anything more than replacing the roof and maybe trying to get the damage to the kitchen floor fixed, I had said "I should REALLY deep-clean the house this summer" and that happened, though not perhaps how I planned it. Then again: without the impetus of the renovations, I might not have had the motivation to work fast, work hard, and pitch out a LOT of stuff that really needed to be pitched.

Glad to here the repairs are going well, unlike my project which has been ongoing for over two years. We might be nearing the end, but you know how chickens are.

Our house STILL needs a new back porch. We can ostensibly afford it but it hasn't happened yet.
