Guess who's here?

So I was doing a bit of piano practice before running over to campus (The plan: update all my powerpoints and try to get rid of the few remaining typos I have).

the GC drove buy, stopped. I thought he was gonna get out and speak to me - he saw my car in the drive - but then he drove on.

Huh, I thought, weird. I guess he was just checking up on local jobs.

Then I turned back to the piano and thought: wait, what if he was expecting the workmen to be here, and they just weren't yet?

Well, guess who just pulled up? Carpenter guy in a truck loaded up with wood - looks like the wood to replace the damage and also maybe some of the siding wood.

I am relieved. I was worried that our usual "Ulysses Everett McGill" situation here (where we are a geographic oddity and it takes two weeks for anything to get here) would be a problem.

We're slated to have rain this weekend so I am very much hoping they can at least cover up the worst of the damage this week.

If they get a lot done, I can probably pay the dude another $10000 towards my total fee, and then with a bit of fiddling I can get more money later.

And painter guy and his colleague....this is really gonna happen

Update, 10:30:

Painter guy is off on another job, carpenter guy (who does not seem to speak English) is working here alone; he called me out to look at the first re-framed window and asked "you like?" and then put me on the phone with Martin and I told Martin I was happy. (At this point: it looks good, any rot or damage has been removed/fixed, and I am even happier if the windows need not be removed). I told Martin I was happy, he said, "I talked to Norman and he might come over and look" but honestly at this point I just waved the carpenter guy on to keep on going with that.

I guess they are going to do the easy windows first.

all the supplies are here; there's a giant stack of wood siding in my yard. I hope either they get much of it up today or it doesn't "walkaway" overnight - that seems very unlikely but in this day and age you never know.

It's loud, but so far there's been no "OMG there's even worse damage" or calling in the head guy, so....

oh better take down the little ceramic windchime I have hanging on an external wall next to a window....it's fallen several times and been broken and glued, I do not want it to break again
