First of two

I did finish one small thing (Well, one craft-thing. I also finished a bigger work-thing) this weekend:



Stripey sock. The yarn is String Theory's continuuum self-striping in "Oenology." I used the Oak Ribbed Sock from Vintage Socks for the pattern.

I still like self-striping yarns. Even if you can't really do too much complex with them in the way of patterning. I finished this sock off and started the second one while watching the first episode of the new season of "Call the Midwife" on Sunday night. (Television, dear television: Why do you not have more shows like this on, that grab my interest and show a time and a place that are different than my own? That actually have stories and narrative to them, and interesting characters? Why so much fascination with reality programming or following wealthy or eccentric people around, or having competition shows everywhere, even on the channels supposedly devoted to cooking programming?)

I also have to note that I called "Cystic Fibrosis" pretty early on with the failure-to-thrive babies. (Sometimes I wonder if I should have been a diagnostician: I have a freakish memory for things (I can remember all kinds of stuff about diseases) and I often can do that sort of lateral thinking that diagnostics seems to require). Of course, I also had a cousin who had cystic fibrosis, so I kind of had familiarity with the symptoms. (I will say it's not QUITE as simple as "We can give them artificial enzymes" as the show commented. It's still a pretty serious disorder and we're even more advanced than at the time of the show, which is set in the 1950s.)

I didn't do as much craft-related stuff on Sunday because I spent the afternoon cleaning my home office. Because.....my computer is FINALLY in. The owner of the shop saw me at church and told me it was - so this afternoon I'm taking my old one in for them to try transferring files (if they can't, it doesn't really matter, there's nothing irreplaceable on there). And the guy offered to come out and set it up on Tuesday. At first I demurred, thinking of how awful my office had gotten. But then, after I got home, I decided to take a whack at the room.

It's better. It's not perfect and it's not even all that great, but it's clean enough someone could come in and set up a computer and printer without my being too terribly embarrassed about it.

It'll be nice to have a working computer at home again.

I did manage to clear the accumulated papers and magazines that had piled up on the guest-room bed in there, so I was able to change the quilts out on MY bed (I store them on the guest-room bed). I had had the snowman quilt on the bed, but changed it out for what I now call the  "Flutter_YAY" quilt(because of yellow and pink). I also got out the Tumbler Quilt (which I seem to have no photos of all finished) to put across the foot of the bed in case it gets colder again.

But maybe by moving the "winter" quilt off my bed, winter will finally end.
I did get out to the quilt shop on Saturday (thanks for the offer Diann, but I had already found the fabric when I got your comment....) I did find a Moda Marble in a dark amber color that will be right for the quilt.

I also went to the little housewares shop. They now carry the special "00" pizza flour and a few other pizza accessories. (Heh: "Pizza and pizza accessories). So now I know what to get my sister-in-law for her birthday.
