Two pictures for today.

First:

Those represent my very first harvest of green beans from my own garden. Yes, they look small, but I like beans best when they are small and thin. (Grocery store beans are invariably too mature for me). And the best part is there are more coming on the vines.

Second:

This is a project I began and didn't comment on. I guess I started it last week. I had been leafing through old issues of knitting mags and ran across the Portrait and Cinema scarf pattern from the Holiday '03 Vogue Knitting. Back in October, I had ordered Cinema in "George Bailey" (I think I commented at the time that I liked the idea of having a scarf named George Bailey, that it somehow would be like protective magic around my neck) and Portrait in "The Postman" (the painting of which I've never seen, but it makes me think of that dreadful Kevin Costner post-apocalypse movie).

So that is the scarf. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do it justice - the combination of the fuzzy Portrait and the slightly shiny Cinema is really beautiful. I'm seriously considering doing one of these (in different colors, something that would match a black or red coat) for my mother for this Christmas.

(Update: could this be the painting of "The Postman"? If so, good. I'm fond of Van Gogh, and I rather like the image).
