Well, first the sad news: My mother just called to let me know that Helen (a friend of my family and a good friend of my mom's) passed away yesterday. She had had one stroke, and was beginning to show some improvement, and then she had a massive stroke, which she apparently wasn't going to recover from.

rest in peace, Helen. Every time I see a hummingbird I will think of you. Every time I bake an angel food cake or a batch of "simply the best cookies"* I will think of you.

*(an actual recipe, I'm not sure where Helen got it but she shared it with us)

Otherwise, it's been a quiet weekend. I rented a stack of movies (mostly old movies; I don't like flatulence humor, naked bodies, or the f-word being liberally sprinkled throughout my movies). I was midway through my umpteenth viewing of "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" when my mother called with the news.

I am knitting as I watch; I'm up to the heel flap on the second of the Whitby socks. I also worked some on the "dream scarf".

I had to get a Td (tetanus) vaccine yesterday (got tangled up in a thornbush and it had been >10 years since my last one) so my arm is sore and I just feel sort of under the weather. It's good to be able to curl up on the couch with some knitting and a silly movie.
