Got a bit more done on the dream-scarf last night.

I also knit some on the swap-socks, I am on the heel flap of the first sock now.

it's from a book on community assembly rules (for ecological communities) and the author used it to describe what happens in science when an apparent impasse is reached - all the sort of crummy ad hominem junk that comes out and people attack each other in the journals or at conferences (which, frankly, is pretty childish and unprofessional). But I think, sadly, it sums up what happens in a lot of realms of human endeavor. I shall keep that quotation in mind for the coming politcal season of '04.
