So I got up and dressed and ate and did my weekly run to Mart of Wal for stuff, and then changed clothes (and put on bug repellent) and went out to the field site to check on my bags.
Prairie site: fine. Though it's been so dry I think I wait another week to start the sampling.
Forest site: goshdarnit. I don't know if it's raccoons or armadillos or what but something keeps disturbing them. This time I had a shovel with me so I reburied them. I should have noted which numbers were out so I could collect them later, but I didn't think of that
But I do see that the drought hasn't totally prevented Osage oranges from fruiting. (When I was young and innocent and didn't know the slang meaning of "balls," one of the common names of these was monkey balls which is now hilarious to me)
I came back home and washed my hair and showered (I always worry about ticks, and we have the ones that carry that protein (?) that can make you allergic to all mammal products - so while I could probably live without red meat, I'm not sure I could give up milk and cheese)
I ran a few errands, and then came back and puttered at things.
No photograph, but I sewed up the rest of the half-square triangle units for the current quilt and pressed them. I think I have 12 blocks left to assemble. I also found a coordinating fabric to use in the next quilt I have planned (with a jelly roll and some yardage for a border, but I needed a plain solid for the block centers).
I also did a bit more work on the Moominhouse
I had already assembled the stove after the correct replacement parts came:
You can see that it's smaller than 1:12 scale, I think it's 1:24.
Also, did some assembly on the interior walls. The interesting thing about these is that they're kind of like "real" walls in that there's a lath section you build, and then, while you don't *plaster* it, you do have very fine flexible veneer-like wood sheets you glue over it. This is the first side, it has to dry before I do the second one:
You can see the "lath" there (the dark strips) and the wall itself is being glued onto the back. There's another set of thin boards that will cover this side, and then there's wallpaper to put on it.
I also painted the parts for the next part of the build - a small cook table and a coffee grinder.
I also got an order I had placed from Simply Sock Yarn. No, I do not need more yarn but I've made a tiny tradition of buying the West Yorkshire Spinner's holiday yarn (most years it has a sparkle in it)
This year, the color is "Nutcracker" - so the traditional colors of a nutcracker figurine
And yes, that's another yarn next to it - they had more British Birds made, and they had a yarn representing a swallow, and another that was a green woodpecker. (We have swallows of our own, but I have never seen a woodpecker with the green woodpecker colors on it)
I have a slight headache (allergies, but also we might finally get some storms) so maybe I spend the rest of the evening on something simple, like the multidirectional diagonal scarf.
