a little knitting

I had been picking away at the Dragon's Breath socks, and realized this evening I could get the leg part done (this is 48 rounds - two repeats that are 24 rounds long)

I also started the heel flap - it's about 2/3 done here but I ran out of steam for doing any more on it tonight

I also got confirmation my manuscript's been received at the journal. And I'm a tech-editor on the journal so the head editor gave me a heads-up that proofs for this year's issue (my manuscript, if it makes it, will be in next year's) will be on their way soon. So I'm still a tech editor, which is good. (I'm good at that sort of thing; I noticed today in the book on plant evolution I was reading there were two typos - they're the sort of thing that spellcheck would miss (one was where it said "think" instead of "thin" in discussing, as a remember, a cell layer in plants) but they stand out to me (most of the time. I can tell when I'm tired or my allergies are bad and I don't notice them as much).

I also pulled out the photograph I found from my Ph.D. graduation. I might take a little time tomorrow and check at the one remaining giftshop/home goods place in town and see if there's a not-too-expensive frame.

It's 8 x 10, I'm pretty sure (but will measure to verify before I buy the frame):

Man, I look so young there. (I was 30). I decided that since this feels like it narrowly missed the onslaught of mice (it was one shelf above where they had torn up paper to try to, I guess, make a nest) I should frame it before anything bad happens to it. I don't really have any pictures of myself, but I guess that's not terribly unusual - I mean, I know what I look like. (Though I look different from that now - my hair is greyer and my face is thinner)

I also have to, early tomorrow, drag as much of the stuff I trimmed out of the backyard as I can down to the curb for Saturday's pickup. It's supposed to be deadly hot but I think if I can do it before 10 am it probably won't be so bad.
