One of the things I made over break was a pair of bulky-yarn mitts - a pattern by an online friend of mine (KatieBea Mazza), she has a shop on Payhip. The pattern is called "rumble mitts" and it's a nice, fast knit and is interesting to make without being difficult or requiring a lot of concentration.
I used a ball of Lion Brand "Mandala watercolors" - there was one lone ball of this left at JoAnn's when I was there back in early July and I thought it would work well for the mitts. (I just let the colors fall where they would; it's a long repeat and I was concerned I'd run out if I tried to match. I did knit an extra repeat in the arm part of them (even the recommended amount of yarn - I had a bit more - should be sufficient if you want to do that)
I think the yarn has since been discontinued. It seems like the "color shifting yarn cake" trend is going away, which actually makes me a little sad because I like that. I am not sure what the new trend is but I hope it's not some novelty yarn that you can only do a few things with, like that giant bobbly chenille.
It's nicely flexible that way; it's easy to make them shorter or longer and if I remember correctly, there are three hand-sizes so if you have large hands, you can size them up. I made the 7" size, because my hands aren't that big.
It's too warm to wear them now but they should be comfortable when fall comes.
it was a fun pattern to knit and for me, it's a bonus that I "know" the designer from online.

I also ordered the newest Hallmark "Keepsake" ornament of a classic My Little Pony. They've done these for a few years and I *think* I have all of them.
This year, it was Powder, a lavender unicorn with silvery hair and cutie mark (of a snowflake - Powder is like powder snow). This is one pony I have in full-sized form as well:
You can see how much smaller the ornament form is to than the actual pony
