New quilt started

I decided to take today off, since I got so much done yesterday.

I did the machine sewing of the binding on the second quilt, and then got out the fabric for the next new quilt.

The line is called "Smol" and is by Kimberley Knight. The colors make me think of the 1970s - especially the clear, strong primary blue and the slightly-orangish red. (there's also a mauvey pink and a grey-green color, and that lavender that you see in the top photo).

These are a couple of "charm packs" - 5" square pieces. Again, like some lines, there are not a lot of different colors and prints, so there will be repeats, but I think I can make it work. The other part was cutting the white background into 5" squares

Here, you can see more of the prints.

What you do, is make four-patch squares, and then subcut them into smaller bits and resew them. This sort of thing (I forget what it's called, something like "shattered four-patch" or "deconstructed four-patch") was popular a few years ago, there were a lot of patterns for it.

I decided to try a couple - I have a few pairs of leftover 5" squares and I wanted to test it out in case it either didn't work (and I had to figure out a new pattern) or if I made a mistake (and just had to remake it out of the leftovers)

The four-patches are pretty simple.

The subcutting is not. It's tedious - would be faster if I had one of those little lazy-susan cutting boards, but I don't. At least there are only 36 of these to make (well, at this point: 34), so it shouldn't be too bad.

They're tedious to make, but they do look good when they're done
