More happy things

* Meetup with Laura tomorrow is a go! We are going to meet at the music box museum in Sulphur Springs. Not sure what else but there is a German restaurant there we will probably get lunch at. And there's an antique shop.

More and more, I feel like getting out and doing fun things - especially if a friend is involved - is important. Several of the people I have lost in my life in recent years were people who had experienced medical/physical setbacks and could not do the things they used to (especially my dad) and I feel almost like I should enjoy stuff like running around and going to museums and other fun-for-me stuff as long as I can.

now, granted: my plan is to be that 85 year old woman in a denim dress and Keds who runs around leading birding trips in her area, but you never know what may happen.

* Some time back (not that long ago - only about 10 days, apparently) I ordered a swan plushie I saw on Super Cute Kawaii. But: the only place it was readily available was Tofu Cute, based in London.

Well, international shipping is a thing, and apparently it's got faster in recent years.

Because the swan came today. I was expecting a little thing from Etsy (a custom bracelet) but not this package, and when the mail guy knocked on my door and then I saw a huge, bright-pink plastic mailer, I thought "Surely they didn't need that for a little bracelet?"

But nope:

She is HUGE. That is her sitting in my recliner. I have decided to name her Princess Daisy Upping. (Swan-upping is a thing and my friend Bee reminded me of it. Of course, she lives in the home of Swan Upping).

Not sure where "Daisy" came from, though I read enough tumblrs these days with people who are at least low-level Nintendo fans, and Princess Daisy is one of the Marioworld princesses, so it may have wormed its way into my head that way.

And "princess" - you can't see it but she has a small crown.

(She also has a "cutie mark" of stars on her wing:)

I do not regret this purchase. She is very nice and cuddly and I think she might live on or near my recliner for at least a while because sometimes you just need something to hold while you watch TV

Another quotation from another tumblr, and I feel this one:

"Me at 17: I think I’ve outgrown stuffed animals tbh. I’ll keep the one or two that have sentimental value and give the rest away…

Me at 27: If at least half my bed isn’t covered in plushies I will die."

Except I'm.....50.

Actually, the point in my life when I had the fewest stuffies around was my undergrad years; I had a couple deeply sentimental ones stuffed under the pillow on my bed, and my big LeMutt and Fifi La Femme stuffed dogs sitting on the sofa, and also a stuffed ALF. (ALF is still in storage at my mom's house, I should retrieve him some time. Le Mutt and Fifi sit on my blanket chest now).

But yeah. I've actually contemplated re-arranging my bedroom to have the bed with the long side against the wall (actually, have it in a corner, so the long side is against a wall, and the head is also against a wall) so I can fit more stuffies on it - I periodically have to rotate out some of the ones I have because of no room.

Glad to hear you had a great day, too.

Just to let you know the books arrived today, after Cindy brought them to my office I wished you had put the extra stickers on the outside. Would have kept them on their toes.

Again, glad to hear you had a good day, and will be having a good weekend. And thank you again for the books. Jennifer and I had a nice discussion after dinner about Thoreau, his life, the area, and interactions between the individual and nature, and 'the city' (which is just a lot of individuals) and nature.

Thanks again. Hope you have a great time with Laura.
