I finished a second "critter" today. This is the crocheted dragon (to go with, I guess, the knitted one I made earlier).
The knitted dragon, I named him Crispin:
He's made from Barbara Anderson's "Little Dragon" pattern (she has it on Ravelry, I think her rework of it is free). Worsted-weight yarn - I just used a random ball of green we had on hand, and the last set of 6 mm lock-washer eyes in my knitting kit.
This is a clever pattern, almost like a sampler of different techniques: knitting garter stitch in the round (the ridges on his belly), picking up (all his appendages are knit on after you pick up the stitches, so there is NO sewing). And bobbles:
He has a cute row of worked-in simple bobbles down his back to make his "spines."
And naming him was not so hard - like I said, I picked "Crispin," shortly after I had him done.
The second critter, though - another dragon, made off of a Sweet Oddity pattern (I think I paid for this one, on Ravelry). I'm having a harder time. I THINK he is a he despite the brilliant color and purplish spikes, but....beyond that I'm coming up empty right now:
Yes, he looks a bit more like a random ungulate (a cow, or something similar) than a dragon because of the wide nose and bobble nostrils (Another clever pattern note: the "claws" on his feet are also bobble stitches, made in the contrast color. And yes, I had to look up how to do bobble stitch in crochet).
This one was also made 100% from leftover yarn - I might not have picked the turquoise if I were BUYING yarn for a dragon, but it works.
I tried some of the online dragon-name generators, but none of the names worked. I'll have to keep thinking....
