Up front: I don't love this hat. And I have a lot of hats already, and one I like better currently on the needles. So I'm going to send it off (free) to someone who wants it OR does collection for a charity that can use hats.
The details:
Probably fits an adult medium to large (very stretchy)
Kind of slouchy - it is not a fitted beanie type hat
The yarn is roughly 80% washable wool, 20% nylon (an old Colinette sockyarn). It's a bit thicker than sockweight though.
The hat itself isn't super thick but I think it would be warm enough in a moderate climate, or for someone who isn't going to be out in the cold for hours on end.
Probably a unisex color (though some men wouldn't wear that shade of purple), definitely a unisex style.
Like I sad: priority given to anyone with a charity that collects hats whose criteria this one fits (I know some places like absolutely 100% wool, and some don't care as much about machine washability). If not that, if you want it yourself, drop me an e-mail with your address. (Or if you collect for a charity, send that on too).
Here's the hat by itself:
You can see the brim is different color from the body of the hat: I am quite sure (as there was a join in the yarn where it changed) that Colinette "cheated" and spliced together two dyelots, or at least one lot that had a lot more color variegation than the other. (Which is part of why I don't love the hat; other people might feel differently).
And here it is on a "model" (I didn't want to get my own cooties* on it, so I put it on Riesige instead)
Her head is bigger than mine is so you can see that the hat will stretch to fit a variety of adult heads.
If I don't get any takers here in the next day or two, I might pop it up on Twitter as well.
(*I do not have literal cooties (i.e. lice) but I know some people are wary of wearing something someone else has, and also, there's an old knitting superstition that if you try on something you are making for someone else, you will have a falling-out with them, and on the off chance I wind up sending it to one of y'all, I don't want to risk that)
