Some disconnected things

* It's funny how some little jobs feel so satisfying. A couple of us share one of those little cube-fridges (well, it technically belongs to the A and P person, but she's said she is going to have us keep it when she retires) that we keep our lunches in. The tiny freezer compartment had iced up to the extent that there were ice stalactites extending all the way down to the little tray that catches drainage.

So I asked her: "I'll be in Saturday, would you like me to defrost the fridge?" She supplied a towel and a hair dryer, so I had at it this morning and finally dislodged the giant icebergs from outside and inside the freezer compartment, and reattached the drainage hose that the ice had pushed loose.

* Driving home for lunch today, Sirius Pops served up Strauss' "Apfelfest" waltz. Two thoughts: I don't know exactly what an Apfelfest would entail, but I would probably go to one. (I like apples a lot and was extremely happy to find new-crop Michigan-grown Paula Reds at the store this morning). And second - I think part of the reason I like Strauss waltzes and such is that they sound like music for people who are having a good time. (Well, FSVO "good time" - I suppose for some people, punk sounds like music for people who are having a good time, or country-pop does. But my definition of a "good time" tends to be a bit tamer than some people's).

And, obligatory Pony link: does Uncle Apple Strudel have Apfelfests on his farm? (He's the older male Apple pony with the lederhosen, though he does not have what is recognizable as a German, Austrian, or German-speaking-Swiss accent)

*The old, closed-down Braum's near me is being renovated. There's a small banner-type sign draped over the fence right in front of the building advertising what it's going to be. The sign shows what looks like either a Philly cheesesteak sandwich or a loose-meat sandwich on a burger bun, and there's a name....but it's too small for me to read from my car and I don't care enough to drive into the lot to read it. (I'll know soon enough. And anyway, if it's another fast-food joint, I probably won't use it.)

* Sometimes, restarting a stalled project is as good as starting a new one. I had knit the "Traditional Toe-Up Socks" from Knitting 24/7 up as far as where I'd have to do the gusset increases, and then put them aside, and got busy with other stuff, and couldn't be bothered to start them back up. But I did the other night. I'm now up to the point where I turn the heel. (I know: weird for me to be turning a heel AFTER doing the gussets on a sock). If I get the heel done this weekend I may photograph it for posterity.
