Finally ordering it

I had been thinking for some months about Julian of Norwich's "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well" statement (which she believed God Himself had told her).

I had seen it engraved on a bracelet, and kind of wanted it. And early on in this whole hypertension thing, I had started using that phrase as sort of a mantra to try to keep my bp down, either while it was being measured or while I was experiencing some stressor.

But, the bracelet was like $120 before shipping, and I just can't justify that kind of cost to myself. (I think I once tweeted that a person in a religious order might be more inclined to tell me to donate that money where it would do some good).

Then, a while back, someone on ITFF on Ravelry linked to Monastery Greetings' version. It's a pendant - which I am more likely to wear than a bracelet anyway - and it's less than half the price of the bracelet.

But still, I put it off.

But, given what's going on in the outside world, and in the world of my university (if you've never heard of 508 compliance, count yourself lucky. And if you've never been through an "accreditation visit," count yourself lucky. Oh, we'll have our accreditation renewed - you have to really mess up to lose it - but still, it means lots of people are on edge and lots of weird stuff is going on). And in the slightly larger world of "Are we going to be replaced by 'robots'?" (all the talk about MOOCs). And I'm kind of feeling like all is not so well right now.

So I ordered it. I don't know if it will help, if it will remind me better that nearly all of the stuff that troubles me is transitory. I hope it does.

(I also see that the monks sell chocolate as well. I may have to look at that site again when it's not a million degrees out. Ordering chocolate from anywhere is an impossibility about eight months out of the year here, unless it's a place that will overnight it with dry ice or something.)

I'm glad you ordered it. I think we underestimate our need for talismans and that pendant is perfect.

Also 508 compliance sounds horrible. Probably half my tax work today is unpaid work for the Feds and with the ACA it's just going to get worse. It sounds like once the infrastructure is set up though, it should be easier?

Government mandates, easy. Suuuure.
