Little Brit mitts

This is actually the first thing I finished over break. Took me just over a day to make the pair.

Brit knit mitt

A little pair of mitts, made with the free sample of yarn (a 50 g ball) in last October's issue of the UK "Simply Knits" magazine. (I really do love that magazine. And I'm happy to see that they are officially advertising that they have partnerships with JoAnn's and Books-A-Million here; that seems to me that that means it's more likely those stores will continue to carry the magazine).

I even knit it using the free 3 mm needles that came with a later issue. (the size called for, and not a common size in the US - it falls between our "size 2" and "size 3" needles)

The yarn for these is Ciboulette, a Bergere de France yarn. (I have no idea how widely distributed that brand is in the US. I don't remember seeing it in shops here but I am familiar with the brand name from reading British patterns and magazines). It's sold as a baby yarn but is a 4-ply (Americans would call it "fingering weight."). The color is an "exclusive" for the magazine and was not otherwise available, or so they pointed out on the pattern.

Interestingly, "ciboulette" means "chives" in French. (I actually had to look that up. I don't know many of the common horticultural plant names in French; my French education leaned more to conversation and literature). The color of the yarn I used for these mitts is not unlike the color of chive flowers, and that sort of pleases me.

It's a 50 g skein and listed at 230 meters, but I thought the skein I had was shorter than that - I was actually worried I was going to run out. (I did not, in fact I had a small quantity left over).

The pattern was pretty simple; I modified it slightly to make the mitts mirror images of each other (it had to do with thumb placement....I altered it just slightly so they "matched" rather than looking like two copies of the same mitt).
