And the soup

I opened up the carton of the "Harvest Corn" soup last night. (The slightly younger dentist I had must be more conservative about novocaine use than the older one - the numbness wore off pretty quickly but my mouth was still hurting a little by suppertime, mostly the gum).

The soup is very good. I mean, I can tell it's "light in sodium" but it's not "blah...light in sodium." It's good. It's a very delicate flavor, almost slightly sweet (from the corn) and you can also taste the potato in it. It's a pureed soup - all nice and smooth, all one texture. (I admit it: I prefer soups I can heat up and drink from a mug, with no chunky bits in them. Bean soup is the one real exception to the "I prefer my vegetable soups all one texture).

So far, I have had no ill effects from the small amount of celery it contains. (Carrots affect me worse than celery does, it seems).

So this one's a keeper. If the sweet potato one is equally good, that means I have two "emergency soups" I can keep on the shelf. (I will have to restock next time I get to Green Market.)

I should do more pureed vegetable soups. I occasionally make a pumpkin soup that is good, and I have numerous potato soup recipes. And I've seen recipes for cream of cauliflower soup where you puree the soup at the end, and now that I know I like cauliflower....

I have a hard time thinking of soup as an actual food unless it has lots of chunks in it. I like creamed soups okay but I have to have something else to go with them, like a sandwich and the soup is just a drink (to me) not a food.

I love that Pumpkin Soup! It's a sure sign that Autumn has arrived when it appears on the menu (or that I got lucky when cleaning out the freezer).
