(Sorry no photos...my camera needed charging. One of these days I will get a new, better camera, once I overcome my fundamental cheapness and fear of buying the "wrong" one)
I've been slowly picking away at various projects. The one I'm most invested now in finishing is the modified-to-be-a-Fluttershy "Friends Forever Fawn." I got the front legs done and as I was starting on the back legs, I decided I needed to put what I had so far together - because I didn't want to confuse the front and back legs and wind up having to take it apart and redo it. So I now have a faceless, maneless, wingless winged horse with a head and front legs. And one of the back legs is nearly done.
I'm a little apprehensive about doing the face. The eyes, especially - I want to get them right, because those big, luminous anime-girl eyes are a main feature of the ponies and a big part of their appeal. I have felt in the closest colors I could find...I'm going to do them as applique, with the white, the iris (sort of a turquoise blue in this case), the pupil, and the two white anime-style "highlights" ("eyeshine") that typically are seen in the "neutral" expression of the pony. I have some black perle cotton (which is thicker and shinier than floss) to do the eyelashes, and also typically Fluttershy looks like she has a bit of black eyeliner on her upper lid. (And the perle cotton can also do for the nostrils and mouth, I think - though maybe I'll shift to just a strand or two of black floss for the nostrils, to make them less prominent).
I also have to figure out how to do a pair of wings, but I have an idea in mind for how I could crochet those.
(And oh dangit, I have to see if I have any pink felt for her "cutie mark." If not, I'll have to try to figure out how to get some. I know a couple places in Sherman have it, but I haven't seen any felt for sale here in town. Sigh. I can't drive all the way to Sherman just for pink felt, and I don't feel like trying to embroider the cutie mark. Though I will say I wish this were the largest problem I had right now.)
This has really taken me a long time...part of it is just being super busy, part of it is that this is a more detailed pattern than most amigurumi, so it takes longer. (And it's not a lot of "just crochet around" rounds, like some of the simpler amigurumi are)
But I do think it will be nice when finished. And yes, I have yarn on hand and plans to do another one...and make it "Derpy Hooves" (or "Ditzy Doo," as she's canonically known on the show).
They were talking on the radio this morning about how some new study coming out says that people who are lonely/who sleep alone report more sleep disturbances and sleepless nights than people who sleep with a partner. While I'm willing to discount the study partly (is it correlation or causation? Someone who's a poor sleeper to begin with may wind up sleeping alone, because their partner can't stand to be with them), I will remark that when one of the radio dudes opined that couples sleep better "because it's a security thing" I wondered if the fact that I do like to keep some of my amigurumi on my bed (and the fact that I have multiple pillows around me) maybe helps me, because it's a security thing.
Of course, the fact that I'm in my 40s and still have teddy bears around is probably part of the explanation as to why I still sleep alone...

I wonder if those long body pillows are a way of tackling the sleeping alone issue.
