First day of the new year!
I should, by rights, now that I am technically a Southern Lady, be preparing black-eyed peas (for good luck) and greens (for prosperity) to be eaten on this day. But I dislike cooked greens and I think several other people in this household dislike black-eyed peas, so I probably won't be fixing them.
From Snopes: New Year's Day traditions
I will say I've done the "do something - even just something symbolically related - involving your work on this day, so you will have a good work year." in the past.

For the third year in a row the first music I have listened to on New Year's Day (morning; I don't stay up on New Year's Eve) has been The Goldberg Variations and the past two years have been pretty good for me so I guess you could call that a lucky tradition.
I, too, have done some "work" on the first day of year. A typing job came in the mail on December 31 so I got started on it January 1. I hope to finish it and get it back to the client on January 4.
When I was a girl, we were told to be careful about what we did on the first day of the year because we'd be doing that all year.
