I worked on various things over the weekend. The biggest thing was that I finished the next section of the Song of Hiawatha shawl:

Aren't they cute? Those are the pine trees.

Here's a closeup:

I really like this stitch (it's kind of a pain to do, but the finished product is nice). I think it would make a handsome rectangular shawl on its own (probably with a provisional cast-on at the neck or center back so the pattern was oriented the "right" way on both sides) and with maybe an edging that incorporated a fir-cone pattern. Out of pine-colored wool, of course.

No, I'm not charting one out, I'm too busy for that, but it's a nice thought.

I also worked more on the prayer shawl and on the scarf for my friend D. And I am working on the foot, almost to the toe, of the second of the Meilenweit cotton fantasy socks that I've been working on since my summer break.

My mid-fall break is this week. Although I COULD be doing research (sorting the endless biomass samples we took last week) or preparing my faculty development plan (ugh), I am going to go and relax. Last week was too hard. I've already decided to call Stitches N Stuff in Longview (to check their hours and to verify that in fact, they really are still there). I might even call Barron's, too, to verify that they're still there (but I can't believe that such a fine bookstore/gourmet shop/nice-thing-store as Barron's could go out of business). And then, I'll hop in my car, drive the 3 1/2 hours, and spend a day away. Away from here, away from the grading and the mess in my office and the prep I need to do, and hopefully away from the things that have been worrying me.
