And another version

Hunting around on YouTube, I found a version of the song I posted this morning, done by some of the same people (Dean Ford, in particular, the singer) some 45 years later.

I do not normally care for "pop artists of the past" revamping their past hits (all too often they are trying to recapture the same exact sound, but with voices that have aged and lost some of either the high or low range, or some of the power), but this is a slightly different arrangement (there is a cello part added), slower, and Ford's voice matured nicely, and there's just a sweet poignancy to it.

Yes, it still makes me a little sad, but it's almost a GOOD sad. If that makes sense.

Especially poignant given that Ford passed in 2018 from complications related to Parkinson's Disease. (At least on the Wikipedia page, his daughter is quoted as saying he was a "gentle soul and a great father" and somehow someone's passing seems...easier to think about....when there are people who cared about them and thought highly of them. One thing I am learning....my mother has been calling my dad's former students (he had many grad students down through the years) as she locates phone numbers for them, and they have shared many nice stories of times he helped them, or one person in particular talked about how he was trying to work and do grad school in a time when that was not done, but my dad did things like arrange alternate times for exams for him and stuff like that, helping him with practical logistical assistance that allowed him to earn his degree.)
