Anyway. Yesterday at the Science Fair, during lunch, the issue of the water heater came up (I think one of the people was talking about how their spouse was having to wait on a workman) and one of the men at the table remarked, "You might see if ONG will give you a rebate; I got a rebate when I got a new heater put in."
Well, hey, "free" money (Not actually "free," I am sure, but it won't FEEL like I'm being given back what came out of my pocket, so free to me). So I'm gonna ask the plumber but just in case, I snapped a couple photos of the thing (and, if I'm home when they've removed it, I'll try to take another)

Dig the funky wallpaper. I wonder what vintage that is? It was there when I bought the house. (I'm guessing early 1970s, unless someone really went on a retro-binge during one of the various renovations)
And another one, I had to take this reaching into the closet - I wasn't going to squeeze in past my washer and risk getting stuck there.

I think I paid $650 for the heater in 2007 but I don't remember how much extra all the code updates were.
And I hope I can adapt again to having hot water; I was thinking about that this morning - will I even be able to COPE with bathing without having to heat water on the stove first? (And yeah, I probably need to wash my hair this afternoon, ugh. I can totally see why in the "old days" people only bathed once a week, if that frequently.)
