Happy New Year

Shiny new 2014. I hope it's the best year yet (she says with slightly wavering hope). Like an old Christmas card I say, may the new year bring contentment and prosperity in overflowing measure.

There's an old tradition of doing something on this day if you want to do it during the year - so, for example, if you hope to write a book, it is an auspicious thing to write at least a few sentences of that book. Or if you want to have an extensive garden, at least doing some planning or looking at seed catalogs.

I'll probably be knitting but perhaps I'll make the effort to read some scientific journal articles, in the hope of keeping up the practice in the coming year better than I did in the past one.
