That wasn't a fun drive.
I went the "long" way that avoids most of the hilliest areas, and that also avoids the narrow, curving road (with blind curves and people who usually drive too fast on it). My own street, as you might expect, was the worst of all of them; First Street was remarkably clear and I actually shifted out of Low to drive on it.
The parking lot was not as bad as reported; I had brought a stout umbrella to use as a cane but I didn't need it. I even got my plate of cookies in safely.
The good news is that it's supposed to be sunny and above freezing most of the day so I expect the drive home will be much better.
HOWEVER, I did receive the proofs for the accepted paper and can go over them today. I love getting proofs; the paper finally feels "real," you know it's actually going to be published.

Something tells me this week is going to be very pear-shaped. For one thing: I will probably have to miss the departmental lunch-out because of a student who CANNOT (so she tells me) get off work any time other than 10 am to noon on Thursday to take her rescheduled final. As a publisher is paying for our lunch, I assume it's tacky to request someone get me a carry out order. So instead of a rare restaurant meal I was looking forward to, it'll be cold yogurt and fruit again in my office. Woecakes.
We've also gotten multiple e-mails on dealing with student time sheet hours and reporting our own "hours off" for the days of inclement weather. Coupled with "retraction" e-mails and "correction" e-mails. It's as if everyone's forgotten how to function.
