I guess I'm not that familiar with Bach's Christmas Oratorio.
One day, the Sufjan Stevens version of this came across my Pandora Christmas channel, and I stopped, and went, "Wait. That's for Good Friday."
Because the tune of that is what I know as "O Sacred Head, now Wounded" (And oh, if you've ever heard that sung a capella, in a darkened church, on either Maundy Thursday or Good Friday....oh. The weight of what happened all those years ago really hits you. Or at least it really hit me).
But apparently it was composed for a Christmas oratorio, and the tune later used for the hymn. Which I actually kind of like, I think there's a sort of sense of completing the circle there.
