Not totally unexpected, and it would have been worse news if it had gone the other way than it is good news the way it did, but I got the final acceptance of my paper verified this morning. (This was the one that I submitted to a large regional journal a year ago, got rejected with a fairly scathing set of reviewer comments, cried over, felt useless for a couple of days, and then said "Dang it, I'm going to rewrite it and resubmit." And I did, choosing a smaller, less-prestigious journal this time). Got it "provisionally" accepted but was asked to make some revisions, which I did. But here's the thing: you never really know. Years back I had the experience with a journal of getting a paper rejected, but being told by the editor, "rewrite these parts, resubmit, and we'll definitely reconsider." During my rewrite, that editor died (!) and the new editor who came on said "Nope, no way, we're not going to look at it again" even though I was saying "But here's e-mail from Former Editor saying...." Ultimately I gave up and submitted it elsewhere and it was accepted there, but still - until you have that final acceptance, you never know.
I'm supposed to get proofs mid-month, and it's supposed to be out in December....so that moved pretty fast.
