Change in schedule

So my piano teacher called up midday yesterday - she has that stomach bug that is making the rounds and couldn't hold lessons. So I was free from about 12:30 on. (Well, "free" in the sense of "no immediate commitments on my time" - I always have work I can be doing).

I decided to do something I had wanted to do, but didn't think I'd have time for. I thought of doing it over the weekend but just didn't have the energy.

I did my typical pre-break house-cleaning. (It needed it, though not as badly as it has some times). I do this partly because it's a lot nicer to return after break to a clean house, and also, because I worry about bugs and other vermin finding their way into the kitchen if there are crumbs and things around. (Yes, I know they could find their way in at night, while I was sleeping, but...). I even got my bedroom mostly cleaned this time, which happens rarely, as it's not a "public" room.

I also did the laundry.

I do have to remember, probably today, to arrange for my mail to be held. (I think you can do it online but I'm not sure I trust that, given how my local PO seems to be run - it seems better to me to take the time to go in IN PERSON and hand the slip to someone at the desk)

I wound off a couple balls of yarn for new projects. I decided not to take a sweater with me to work on - I'm only going to be on break a week, and I have a couple of pairs of socks I would like to finish. I also want to start another pair of "Rib Fantastic" socks (this is from the "Knitting socks with handpainted yarns" book - there are some good patterns in there to prevent pooling or flashing). I have a skein of yarn in a purple/tan/blue combination (I think the yarn is Denali?) The colorway is called "River Rocks" and I thought it would look good knit up in that pattern.

I also wound off some really bright yarn (Lorna's Laces sportweight in a color called "The White Witch's Lure" - I presume it refers to the "White Witch" in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," that's the only white witch I remember reading of who would have used a lure - it's very bright fuchsias, purples, and a lime green. (Supposed to resemble Turkish delight? That was the lure the white witch there used, though the only Turkish Delight I have ever had came from Aplets and Cotlets, and it was pretty much "natural" fruit color - sort of a pale tan). I'm going to make fingerless mitts out of this. It's kind of getting out of fingerless-mitt season here, but then again - the warm season pretty much isn't amenable to wearing ANY kind of knitwear, other than maybe a shawl or a cotton cardigan if you're somewhere where the air conditioning is on "high."
