I'M AN AUNT!

My mom just called.

My sister in law had her baby early this morning. She's fine...no need to induce. The baby came "naturally."

The baby is very healthy, my brother said she has brownish-red hair (but I know, sometimes that first hair falls out).

Sarah-Jane is her name. I LIKE that, I think it's very cute and a little old fashioned. I don't know if it's a family name from anyone in my sister in law's family or not but I do like the name.

ETA: Some of my Dr. Who fan friends have pointed out that Sarah Jane was a character during the Tom Baker years of Who. Which is now where I am supposing the name may have come from. That's okay; I still like the name and most people won't be going "You named your kid after Dr. Who's Companion"

E-ETA: I found a free pattern on Ravelry for a K-9 toy (K-9, the cyberdog, was part of the whole Tom Baker Who years, I guess). I'm really tempted to knit one up and send it to the baby, no note or anything, just as an "I see what you did there" to my brother and sister-in-law.

Edited, early afternoon: Received the first pictures via e-mail (so it really did happen....). My sister in law looks tired. Sarah-Jane is a little reddish but she looks way less "scrunched up" than some newborns I've seen.

congratulations to everyone in the family- what a lovely name- my sons/daughters all named their offspring very tradionally, so i love the choice for your niece-

i'm sure that 'baby knitting' is going to take on a whole new meaning (fun!) for you-because my husband and i are both the only children of only children, i've never gotten to be an aunt (or even a cousin), but being a g'mama is just a wonderful thing- i know you are going to enjoy lots of happy times with this little one in your family-
