It's raining like crazy today.
Normally I rejoice over that in the middle of the summer, but tonight I'm supposed to go to a Rangers game with a group of people from church. And last night's Rangers game experienced a 2 1/2 hour rain delay.
As much as I like everyone in the group, sitting around for 2 1/2 hours or more with them, with nothing much to do, is not something I relish. (There's also the getting-back-in-the-very-late-hours-of-the-night that I don't relish).
I'm hoping either the rain pulls up out of that area and mainly afflicts us here, or that they decide to cancel the game. (They do sometimes cancel baseball games, don't they, when the weather is just too bad?)
I presume this is moisture and instability hauled in from Alex.
I'm debating taking knitting tonight - I don't know how strictly they check people's bags at the door, and I don't want to be that person who holds up the entire group while she is questioned over the small pointy pieces of metal. And also, it might look a bit asocial if I pulled out my knitting. But then again - many of the people in the group are webphone addicts, and if they're blooping and bleeping away on their phones, and I'm just SITTING there with nothing to do during a rain delay, I will be irritated. So I may chance taking one of the simple socks I'm knitting on with me.

In my experience, the check at the door for a minor league baseball game is mainly for beer and switchblades. I often bring two projects and a Nalgene, and never have any problem.
Take a simple sock at least. As long as you can interact and knit, how is that asocial?
Take your knitting! I take mine all the time to SF Giants and Oakland A's games. There are times it's the only thing that keeps me sane, and I love baseball.
In truth, security seems much more concerned about recyclable bottles and cans - things that drunken and irate fans might throw - than my knitting.
Heck yeah take a sock! IMO bleeping and blooping on webphones is a lot more asocial than knitting but I'm old-fashioned about that, goldurnit!
Take your knitting. A lot of major league teams have Stitch and Pitch events so I think knitting needles wouldn't cause any concern.
