Huh. Blogger is having a few problems this morning but I figured a work around to it.
Anyway. I'm in a better mood than I was earlier this week. I think it's in part because I made the "command decision" that, as we have both Friday (as usual) AND Monday (Independence Day holiday, even though the actual day is Sunday) off, that fieldwork will happen MONDAY. Not FRIDAY.
I am taking Friday off. Entirely off. I am not coming in, I am not going to work on teaching or research stuff. I'm going to stay home and relax and either knit on Thermal (I am so close to being able to divide for the fronts and back) or quilt on one of the quilts that is in a frame. Because I need a day off.
I'm also going to take this (late) afternoon off. I need to run out and find the alternate route to the field site we're going to use for lab next week. (It's complicated. There may or may not be construction on the easy road I usually take to get there. What I have to do is call one of my students who lives out that way the morning of, and she will drive down and check if they're working...)
Anyway, the alternate route is almost half way to Sherman as it is, so I figured I might as well go the rest of the way. There are a few things I am getting close to needing that are much harder to find locally. And I also then have an excuse - if I'm down doing a Target run and going to the bookstore and whatnot - to grab dinner out somewhere.
I think I'm more productive and generally happier when I'm not working to the point where I feel like my head's going to explode. (And having worked last week to the point where I felt like my head was going to explode, I happened to get far enough along on stuff that I feel like I CAN take a day off.)

I re-did the polish on my toenails last night. The "Profound Pink," while it lasted a couple weeks, was sufficiently chipped that I cleaned it off. This time, I re-did with the "Opulent Pink" (the only other color I had on hand) because I felt like I wanted a change. (I do think the base coat - 2 coats of color - top coat, even though it takes annoyingly long, does result in a better job and a more chip-proof polish.)
One thing I think I am going to look for this afternoon at the Target (they have a bigger "beauty" section than either of the places in town does, currently) is some other color. I probably won't stray from the pink-magenta-red color family (as much as I don't like thinking of myself as "staid," there are some ways in which I am. I can't quite imagine myself wearing traffic-cone orange on my toes, or green, or something like that.)

I just realized that yesterday was payday. I really hope that doesn't mean the grocery store is koo-koo crazy tonight. (Sometimes it is, the day of/after payday. Though usually Friday paydays are worse). Oh well. I need milk and if I'm going to Sherman, I can buy another tub of the Plain Lowfat Stonyfield Farms yogurt that I CANNOT find anywhere in town. (Which aggravates me. One store carries the vanilla of that brand. Another store doesn't even seem to want to admit plain yogurt exists. The local wal-mart reduced their yogurt section sharply in their recent store re-design and they don't carry it any more. At least they do carry plain Greek style yogurt, which I will use in a pinch - except, I have a little problem with the Greek style yogurt.
I'll be going along, happily eating my yogurt. And then suddenly one of the jokester neurons in my brain will fire, and will go "Look! You're eating STRAIGHT SOUR CREAM!" and suddenly I will feel exactly like I AM eating straight sour cream. And then I can't keep on eating, because I'm too disgusted by the idea of eating straight sour cream. Yes, I know, it's illogical that plain yogurt is ok to eat straight but sour cream is not, but I have a very strange sense of what does and does not disgust me.)
Oh, if we only had Peapod grocery delivery in this town, my life would be so much easier. (I presume that Peapod and similar services - because they operate out of a warehouse rather than a retail store - would have a larger selection of things).

I'm surprised that students would be willing to do field work on a holiday. Are you sure you won't end up out there all by yourself?
I think I eat more Greek yogurt than any other food stuff...never really thought of it as sour cream!
