Odd career regrets:

I wish someone had warned me, when I was in the early days of thinking about becoming a professor, just how much of my office time would be spent putting things in alphabetical order.

Not that it would have been enough to scare me off of it, but it just would have been good to know. If I ever lose the capacity to alphabetize, I will be in considerable trouble.
