Well, I did something that I said I wasn't going to do. Bowing to peer pressure from one of the Ravelry groups I'm on, I joined Twitter. (I seldom bow to peer pressure, really. But this particular group is a bad influence on me. Oh well. I didn't have any bad influences as a teenager, so I guess better late than never).

Except, I foolishly linked the account to my really-real name, and realize now I can't do what I originally planned - post crazy, random, made up stuff (I think I made some reference to "Fillet-O-Egret" on the rav board). Because someone who really knows me and doesn't know me as someone to do crazy made-up stuff might start following me.

So, rather than letting it be a "I'm scratching my backside now" type of series of posts, or something similarly self-absorbed, I think I am going to mainly do short posts on:

1. stuff I am reading
2. stuff I run across in my research
3. semi-random but interesting biological (and maybe other) facts
4. quotations I like, both famous and not-so-well-known.
5. new words of the day

That way, IF a student does wind up following me (or, gulp, a COLLEAGUE), I won't look quite so bizarre. Of course the user name 'crazyfillyjonk' is not such a great pick in that case, but I don't think I'm gonna change it now.

Of course, I don't know. Maybe the thin skin of respectability I maintain at work has cracked enough times that my sitting around and posting made-up restaurant menus for Fillet-o-Egret wouldn't seem so bizarre to people who know me.

I don't know. I may drop the twitter after a while for lack of interest, though there is an interesting challenge in trying to sound like "myself" in just 140 characters.

So, do you mind if I follow you on Twitter? I couldn't find you with a brief search... I'm AvenSarah.

I was going to use mine to post crazy random thoughts that occur to me but I haven't had many of those lately and if I do I don't think of Twitter. I post something on it maybe once a week.

I'd be happy to follow you too. Maybe I'd remember to at least look at it a couple of times a week if I was following a few interesting people.
