Note to self: when you desire youth group to end early when the weather is cold, allow the kids to go outside to play soccer for game-time instead of demurring and saying, "Oh, isn't it too cold for that?"

Ten minutes later, they were all like, "Okay. We're ready to leave now."

I started yet another amigurumi critter. This time, one from a book - one of the giant bolus of amigurumi books that seem to be just now out/about to come out. (Wonder how long before this trend burns through, sigh.)

This is from a book in the "Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts" series, as you might guess, the one devoted to amigurumi. It's called something like "Fuzzy Animal" or "Fluffy Animal" and it's made with a mohair type yarn.

I'm using the leftovers of the Rowan Kid Classic from the Greek Pullover (I have one ball and about 3/4 of another left - so I should have a small amount left over to file away against future damage to the sweater).

It's not easy to crochet with - very very splitty - but I like how it's turning out. It makes a much softer and more flexible fabric than the traditional amigurumi yarn (hardspun acrylic).

I think it's going to be a bear, I haven't decided 100% (the two given options are bear or rabbit, but it would not be hard to do a cat instead by changing the ears slightly and making a long narrow tail). Yes, it's going to be the same burgundy (a/k/a "Crush Velvet") as the sweater.

The ones in the book are almost a little "pathetic" looking - they have four-hole buttons sewn on as eyes, and seem kind of floppy and sad - and that's kind of appealing.

And just so I don't forget:

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! At Fillyjonk's Prooooooooogress! See the sixth anniversary of a blog! See Old Knitted Crap That Never Got Photographed!* Special Appearance by the Funny-Yarn Amigurumi Family!*

Be there - or be a PARALLELOGRAM!!!!

(*or not. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the day yet.)

Yes, I heard far too many ads for events at the Richfield Coliseum (which, alas, has since been torn down) when I was a child.

Oh! Fillyjonk's progress is one year and one day older than the queen's castle! My 5 year anniversary is Monday. I'm trying to think how to celebrate it - but I love it that we are a year and a day.
