It's Peanut Butter Jelly Socks!
Peanut Butter Jelly Socks!*

(*the inspiration, which I still think is one of the oddest things I've seen on the Web. And there's more info about it, on Wikipedia of course).

One of the things I like about handknit socks like these, and about self-patterning yarn, is that they're fundamentally un-serious. It's hard to be too dour when you look down and see bright colors or stripes on your feet. As I have said several times before, one of my favorite "back page" essays from Interweave Knits was the one where the writer commented that great art may be the human response to great tragedy (I think this was an issue not too long after September 11, 2001), but that craft is rather a celebration of human playfulness, of the cleverness of our spirits - and the true delight that I think most of us take in creating something useful, beautiful, or both.
