"When nerds and crafts collide"

crocheted and knitted cell model.

I require my gen. bio students to make and display cell models as one of their class projects. Do you know how much I would freak (in a good way) if someone did something like this? (One year I had a Japanese student who made a little beanie-baby type model of a prokaryotic cell out of felt. It was stuffed and 3-d and everything and it was just the cutest thing. I didn't quite have the guts to ask her if I could have it, if she wasn't planning on keeping it).

Ahh! I SWEAR I was thinking of this exact thing on my flight back from home last week, trying to think of intensely nerdy knits that I haven't yet seen online. The wiggliness of the Golgi was enough to send my mind searching elsewhere. I'm glad someone else had at it.
