"We will knit no yarn before its time"
This is the next sweater-sized project. I've had the yarn since, I think, spring of '04, back when Elann had a sale on the Muench Bergamo. (Normally I do not buy Meunch yarns; they are way beyond my comfort level price-wise).
It's going to be the Cache-Coeur from the Weekend Knits book. I was thinking about starting a new sweater and contemplating if I wanted to do the Big Sack Sweater out of the SnB book (using some chunky Wool-Ease in stash), or if I wanted to brave the River Forest Gansey out of the Sisik, or if I wanted to start Samus. But then I thought: any sweater you begin now will not be finished until spring (and even if it were finished faster? We're having such a warm winter that heavy wool's not really an option right now). And then I remembered the Bergamo, and I thought of its pretty thistle color (I really do think the season affects my taste in colors: in the winter I want pastels and "spring" colors; when it's hot in the middle of summer I want jewel tones and fall foliage colors). So I found it, swatched it, and started the sweater last night.
Bergamo is a nice yarn. It's sort of a pity it feels "too expensive" to me because it's really different from everything else out there - it's a wool but is very 'frothy' because it's a woven tape rather than a solidly spun yarn - it makes a very light weight fabric and one that has a nice "scrunchy" feel to it.
Oh, and I decided to break out of my "big girl" mindset: my two possible size choices were the 44 3/4" size and the 48 1/4" size. I originally bought yarn for the bigger size but after some judicious measuring (and thinking about how the thing was supposed to look on - it's a fitted vest sort of thing with ties that can be drawn up looser or tighter as desired), I began the 44 3/4" size. (I know, that's still "big girl" but it's not as "self-hating and wanting to drown in excess fabric big girl" as my old habit of choosing the 46" or 48" or even 50" sizes on things.)
And here's one of those "what?" moments: I found this while looking around for a pencil to underline the numbers pertaining to that size, and I found this:
I honestly do not remember buying or being given this pencil. (I think I would). I tend to take things too much as omens, but I just stood there and LOOKED at it for several minutes, feeling perplexed.

Oh oh oh beautiful. I am tempted to start one for myself! And good for you to knit the smaller size. It is just so darn hard to see myself as I really am.
And though I am not really a lurker, happy delurking week.
