Graduation was today. It's not as exciting to me as it used to be - it's more of a routine now, the novelty of being one of the "faculty" who get to walk in first in the full cap & gown & hood has kind of worn off.
And it's always kind of long. And no matter how I try to position myself in line, I wind up too close to the loudspeakers, which seem to be set on 'stun.' (and, I discovered, our president hisses his sibilants. It's very very obvious at 110 dB).
I did get to see a couple of students I knew graduate, which is kind of nice. Didn't go to the reception afterward as I had a headache after being subjected to the super-amplified sounds of the various campus administrators.
Feeling a little sad today - I don't know if it's the end of the semester, or if it's just the let down of being crazy busy for so long and now not having anything much to do*. Or maybe it's that I slept longer last night than I have in weeks, and I actually overslept - I think I went to sleep around 9:30 but didn't get up until after 7, which is about 2 hours longer than what my body's trained to. Or I'm not eating enough fruit or something. I've eaten up most of the food I have on hand, so either I'm going to have to buy single-serving stuff or go out for the couple of lunches and dinners that remain. Or open a can and try to use it all up before I leave.
Desultorily knitting, switching between the Fibonacci sweater (for some reason, knitting on it for a long time hurts my shoulder right now) and the purple striped socks I started back in summer and kind of gave up on until now.
(*As much as I talk about wanting to be able to sit and knit for hours? I can't do it. I knit a few rows and then jump up to put laundry in, or check the mail, or get a glass of water - I'm just not good at sitting still. One of those beach vacations where all you do is lie in a chair and tan would be torture for me)
My little Christmas present to myself did arrive today: it's color 03, which I thought was called "grass" but maybe Carodan Farm took down the color names...too bad, I always like the names given to colors more than the numbers. I have chosen colors largely on the strength of the association their name called up for me, at times.
The yarn is very nice. And it says, right on the label: "mit Aloe Vera und Jojoba Öl" which amuses me. Yarn with botanicals! I love all the crazy things they do!
I think this will have to be one of my take-with yarns; I can start up a pair of simple socks with it at some point when I need a good read-and-knit project or a good knit-and-watch-sappy-Christmas-movies-on-tv project.
